Be careful sharing those back to school photos online
With kids heading back to school, parents proudly want to show off their journey online to friends and family members. With online becoming increasingly more dangerous for young ones we want to make sure and follow a few tips when sharing those photos and info. Although privacy settings help, keep in mind when we are sharing items online, that it is for the world to see.
- Make sure you are not showing any of your children’s information like classroom numbers, full names, and teachers’ names.
- We want to make sure and avoid any images or videos that showcase habits of pickup times or drop-off times. These let people know one thing…times we are not there with them.
- Predators online are always looking for any information that may help them build relationships with children. This could involve any info that they may use in order to show they know them or the parents.
- Keep in mind that information can be seen from metadata on photos and videos. Some of this data is location, times, and what camera took the photo. You will see in the photo below in red what items you can see from one of my own photos. If you would like to turn off this feature, you can read how to here.
If your children have their own social media accounts or access, we would highly recommend this conversation with them as well. Sharing photos and videos can be fun and wonderful for your friends and family members as long as they are done safely.
